Chelsea Puts a Cap on Moises Caicedo Transfer Fee, Boosting Manchester United
Brighton has been cautioned by Chelsea that they will not exceed £80 million ($102 million) for Moises Caicedo, who has also attracted interest from Manchester United.
The Blues had a £60 million bid for Brighton striker Moises Caicedo rejected earlier this month, and it is expected that a second bid will be made soon. This decision by Chelsea will be a significant boost for Manchester United, who are currently pursuing the talented player.
Brighton has been informed by Chelsea that they are not willing to pay more than £80 million for the services of the Ecuadorian international. Brighton is known for their refusal to sell players at a low price, and this stance has been upheld during negotiations.
In previous transfer windows, Chelsea had made offers of £55 million and £60 million for the midfielder, both of which were rejected by Brighton. With the recent signing of Villarreal forward Nicolas Jackson, Chelsea is not willing to go beyond £80 million for Caicedo.
Manchester United, on the other hand, may benefit from Chelsea’s reluctance to pay a higher fee. If the Blues are not willing to meet the £100 million mark, Manchester United could swoop in and secure the services of the talented player. The Red Devils have previously shown interest in Caicedo, and with their failed bid for Chelsea’s Mason Mount, they might redirect their focus to this potential signing.
Brighton acquired Caicedo from Independiente for a meager fee of £4.5 million in February 2021, shortly after Manchester United had the opportunity to sign him for a similar amount. If Brighton decides to sell the young midfielder this summer, they stand to make a substantial profit.
Caicedo’s performance last season was exceptional, leading Brighton in successful tackles, interceptions, blocks, and opportunities created. He also ranked second in progressive passes. His defensive prowess was evident as he recorded the most tackles in the Premier League, second only to Joao Palhinha of Fulham.
Currently on vacation after representing Ecuador in friendlies against Bolivia and Costa Rica, Caicedo is expected to join his team for preseason training in July.
